ABCDEF-M...My Little Story to be a MIDWIFE

Hi everyone, healthy greetings to all of us, do you want to know whether it's ups or downs to be a midwife?

Well, I will share it to you

I became a midwife because of my dream since I was young. Long story short, I entered the favorite midwifery campus of millions of people, namely the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health until I graduated and became a midwife. Although I have only been in this profession for a short time, I have often monitored and felt how the conditions were in serving patients with various diseases,

As a midwife, I have a lot of contact with children and mothers (pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, elderly). This group is the most vulnerable and must receive emergency assistance within minutes and hours at the referral hospital. With all the limitations at that time, I encountered a lot of obstacles.

The obstacle was not merely limited infrastructure and medical personnel. The biggest obstacle was making decisions that were often late. At the time, it was decided that the patient should be referred immediately, but the family did not immediately respond. Usually, it waited for family deliberations which eventually often aggravated the patient's condition because it took time. Several times I found that the patients I referred were not helped even though they had received referral treatment. There are mothers who are forced to lose their babies in their wombs. There are babies and toddlers who die even the most heartbreaking ones when mothers (pregnant, maternity and postpartum) have to lose their lives after struggling to give birth to their babies.

Besides that, I also had to compete while trying to win the heart of the village shaman until finally a partnership was established with them.

The art of providing service was very little to get when we are in college, in fact it is only really obtained when we go directly to the community. Every experience teaches us a very meaningful lesson. It is not infrequently that I have to deal with anger, sadness, rejection from patients and families. However, all of that can be treated when the happy moment is created from the birth, the highly anticipated pregnancy even after surviving an emergency incident.

Many incidents are eye-opening, one of which is the power of women in making decisions, even for their own health, they must depend on other people such as husbands and other close family members. Rarely does the mother have the opportunity to decide for herself in getting services. This is related to local socio-culture where women have not had full rights in deciding their own needs even in family planning, which in the end often happens that the mother becomes pregnant again while the baby is not even 1 year old. This condition reduces the health status of the mother which ultimately increases the risk of complications in following pregnancies.

Behind that there is something that makes me really love the midwifery profession, namely when I first saw a baby born into the world and greeted me with tears, which I had been waiting for and accompanied by thanksgiving from my family, which made me even more proud to be a midwife.

Many ups and downs as a medical worker. This profession requires energy, time, dexterity, accuracy and sincerity when it comes to prioritizing tasks over family. Hopefully, in the future the health of mothers and children will improve and there will be no more maternal and child deaths because they do not get maximum service assistance.

A little story about me as a midwife because I just graduated hehe next time we will tell you more about midwives well... See you soon..
